When I was a child, the beginning of the school year was always exciting. Everything was new again: new teacher, new clothes, new friendships. Of course, that particular feeling faded by the end of the second week. The rest of the school year was never so much fun and shiny as those first few days.
Now that I am an adult, I live vicariously through my children’s excitement for the new school year. Although we have moved from traditional brick-and-mortar school to a virtual school, the sheer fact of using technology in a new way excites them as much as new clothes and a haircut did for me when I was a kid.
I hope, though, that the new and shiny feeling they have about the beginning of the school year doesn’t fade as fast for them as it did for me, though.
